A five-day staff exercise, which started on Monday (December 2), is testing the readiness of personnel of the main site of command, the General Staff of the Slovak Armed Forces, the Joint Operational Headquarters and other components of the army to defend Slovakia, TASR was told by spokesman for the Slovak armed forces Stefan Zemanovic on Tuesday.
"The armed forces have been, are and always will be a stable pillar of society. Given the events of recent years, as well as the war in our eastern neighbour and the tense security situation in Israel and the Balkans, it is our duty to prepare for an unpredictable and rapidly changing security environment," said Chief-of-General-Staff Daniel Zmeko.
According to Zemanovic, the exercise should show how the General Staff can assume the main site of command and manage a military campaign to defend Slovakia.
