A Platform for Free Museums has been established in Slovakia. So far 67 museum professionals from all over Slovakia have joined it. The aim of the initiative is to network the staff and create a space for joint discussions. Furthermore, it is to initiate a dialogue with the founders and to participate in the creation of cultural policy in the field of museology. TASR was informed by Marcela Kvetková from the platform.
"The impetus for the creation of the platform is the alarming situation in Slovak museums. We know that this situation has been unsatisfactory for a long time, but the current cultural policy and economic consolidation are making it unprecedentedly worse. Museums do not need ill-considered reforms imposed from above. They need independence, stability, economic and legal predictability and a vision for development," said Zuzana Denková, one of the initiators of the platform.
The museum industry associated in the platform considers unacceptable the closure of museums in the regions, which are important points of cultural and community life and tourism.
