The planned D4 highway section in Bratislava is a project of higher public interest. This states the document Construction of the D4 Highway Section Bratislava, Jarovce - Ivanka north which the Cabinet approved on Wednesday.
According to the plans, a part of the highway at Bratislava Jarovce should intersect the Special Protection Area Dunajske Luhy (Danube Floodplains) and Biskupicke Luhy floodplains, a protected area of European importance. According to analysis of its environmental impact, this highway section will have significant adverse effects on the integrity of the environment in these protected sites. The construction will not be diverted, as it was given the status of higher public interest, but the Environment Ministry after discussions with conservationists, foresters, and water managers drafted a plan of compensatory measures that should mitigate the negative impact of the project on protected areas. According to the Ministry of Transport, this highway could be completed in 2020.
