Slovak and Ukrainian Presidents discuss election over phone

In a telephone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko on Tuesday, Slovak President Andrej Kiska praised Sunday's peaceful parliamentary election in Ukraine, the president's press department stated.

Kiska congratulated the leaders of pro-reform and pro-European groupings for their victory in the election and added that these results are good prerequisites for bolstering much needed reforms. According to the early results of Sunday's vote, pro-Western parties emerged victorious in the election. Poroshenko's bloc finished neck and neck with the People's Front led by Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk. The two parties have already launched coalition talks. “Ukraine can rely on Slovakia's support in carrying out reforms”, added Kiska. Poroshenko, for his part, thanked Slovakia for its support and stated that the recent election has indicated that Ukrainians share European values. The Ukrainian president at the same time highlighted that Slovakia was the first of the Visegrad Four countries (Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland) to ratify the EU Association Agreement with Ukraine. He also praised Slovakia's assistance in providing humanitarian aid and medical treatment to those who took part in the pro-European Maidan protests. Furthermore, Kiska invited Poroshenko to participate in a meeting of the Visegrad Four presidents. Poroshenko stated during the conversation that he's aware of the importance of the V4 grouping and the opportunities for Ukraine to draw inspiration from all member states. He added that if his working schedule allows, he would also like to visit Slovakia.
