On Monday, Ladislav Košecký, the executive director of the ministry-owned company MH Development, was fired for unethical behaviour. This happened after Independent MP Miroslav Beblavý sent a letter to the Economy Minister denouncing that MH Development had rented a car from a company called Mertimex, in which Košecký is the only partner, for a monthly fee of €1,200 excluding VAT for the whole of last year.
“This is more than €14,000 in a year, a sum that buys you a car easily”, said Beblavý. A similar case occurred in August when the head of the largely state-run Bratislava Stock Exchange (BCPB) Jozef Medved hired a car for BCPB from a company called Vanys, which was in his sole ownership. He was dismissed. “The Economy Minister considers the course of action by the head of MH Development to be unethical, just as was the case with head of the Bratislava Stock Exchange”, said ministry spokesperson Miriam Žiaková, adding that he will receive no severance pay.Košecký did not react to media requests for a statement on this case.
