Cancer patients to get better proton beam therapy

The Proton Centre, which was built in 2009 in Ružomberok Military Hospital for almost €4 million, wants to return its unused accelerator to its Russian producers and will seek to procure a new one through EU funds, perhaps again from Russia. Education Minister Peter Pellegrini said that the state run Centre of Scientific and Technical Information will try to help by using the remaining money from the ending EU fund programming period.

The treatment of cancer patients using proton beam therapy should be a purely scientific project for over €12 million in the first stage. The centre has to manage in time the public procurement by the end of next year.
