Slovak banks successful in stress tests

Three of the largest banks on the Slovak market - Slovenská sporiteľňa, VÚB and Tatra Banka - passed comprehensive stress tests run by the European Central Bank (ECB) and therefore they don't need to raise their capital. The three banks succeeded in an assets quality evaluation as well as in stress tests.

ECB ran stress tests at 130 banks with two elements - a point-in-time asset quality review, which examined the adequacy of the banks' assets and collateral valuations, and a forward-looking stress test in which balance sheets were subjected to ‘stress scenarios’. “The banks are healthy with comfortable cushions created for the case of negative shocks,” Finance Minister Peter Kažimír said commenting on the results.
