Out of 41 Slovaks currently in Nepal, no contact has been established yet with only one individual, Foreign and European Affairs Ministry press department head Peter Susko confirmed.
40 Slovaks are safe, said Susko. “No one has asked Slovak authorities for assistance,” he claimed. The contact information was acquired from the voluntary registration system, but some were provided also by relatives. A ten-member expedition was hit by an avalanche in Nepal last week caused by heavy snowstorms at its base camp at the foot of Mount Dhaulagiri. Seven Slovaks and one expedition member of Czech origin survived the extreme weather, but Jan Matlak and Vladimir Svancar along with three Nepalese Sherpas weren't so fortunate. The extreme weather in the Himalayas has now claimed the lives of at least 41 people. The Nepalese authorities have reported that they have rescued some 500 individuals.
