Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) vice-chair Ľubomír Galko is demanding an explanation from police regarding their actions at a routine roadside stop, whereby a young woman was allegedly rough handled by an officer. “In the published video, recorded by the driver's daughter, the aggressive behaviour of the policeman can be clearly seen.
I won't let this slide by”, said Galko, who wishes to discuss the incident with Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák at the Defence-Security Parliamentary Committee session and demand a statement in Parliament about the action taken against the police officer in question. According to the tabloid Nový čas, the woman was going to a family celebration with her daughter and their car was stopped by two-man police patrol. “From the outset, one of the police officers acted quite rudely. He was raising his voice at us, demanding to see a red sticker about the technical inspection of the vehicle”, claims Maria, the daughter of the alleged victim. When the women explained that they had received permission to use the car at the technical inspection without the red sticker, the policeman wanted to impound the car. “At that moment, he started to yell at me, asking me if I'm deaf and stupid”, said Maria. “Mum then asked him whether he uses that kind of language also with his own mother, which she shouldn't have said. He yelled back at her: 'Who do you think you're talking to, c*nt' and shoved her against the boot of the car." The daughter began to record the police officers with a mobile phone camera. Afterwards both women were roughly handled and handcuffed, with the reason given for the daughter's arrest being that she didn't have her ID card on her, only a document confirming that she had lost it. "To see the use of such force against a woman makes it hard to even finish watching. It looks very unpleasant. We've already made steps to investigate the incident and will wait for its results”, said Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák.
