In May the state budget deficit increased by more than €525 million according to newly released data from the Finance Ministry. However, in an annual comparison the deficit was lower by 25.8 percent. Total revenue in five months of this year dropped year-on-year by 3.7 percent, while total expenses decreased by 11.1 percent.
In the most significant component of total government revenue, tax revenue, the Finance Ministry recorded at the end of May a slight increase of 3.3 percent to €3.401 billion. Revenue grew year-on-year from almost all types of taxes, except for excise taxes.
