A man identified only as Libor, 37, faces criminal prosecution over blackmailing a woman in the Žilina region with indecent photographs and demanding money with malice, said Žilina Regional Police Corps spokesperson Jana Balogova on Tuesday. The man met the woman online and engaged in intense communication with her.
“In January 2014, he came to visit her at her home and initiated sexual relations with her. The accused took pictures of this against the woman's will, allegedly for his personal needs. Later in March, he wrote to the woman via the internet website on which they met that he needed money urgently and wanted to sell her the photographs. He also demanded €1,200 to return the pictures. The woman sent the money as per his request, but he then demanded another €4,000 later in June,” said the spokesperson. The second tranche of cash requested was accompanied with threats of violence against the woman and her children – thus elevating the crime to one of extortion as well as blackmail. “The last time the accused contacted the woman on 8 June, demanding another €1,300 and, fearing for her life and the lives of her family, the woman had a mental breakdown. Libor, who received a total of €4,000 from her, now faces four-ten years in jail if found guilty,” said Balogova, adding that the man is being remanded in custody.
