Unexploded World War II munition found again in eastern Slovakia

A Prešov regional pyrotechnician had his hands full on Wednesday. Shortly after seven o'clock in the morning, he went to check the report of a 71-year-old man from Nižná Písaná, who had reported the discovery of ammunition to the police. “On arrival at the scene, the pyrotechnician determined that they were 4 hand grenades and 9 artillery mines. Part of the ammunition was disposed of on the spot, part was seized by the pyrotechnician and transported for disposal,” informs the Prešov Regional Police Spokesperson Jana Ligdayová.

Less than two hours later, the bomb squad was on its way to the village of Nižný Komárnik, where a 50-year-old man reported that he had found ammunition unknown to him in a local stream opposite his family home. The pyrotechnician took the artillery mine from the World War II period on the spot for subsequent disposal.
