The Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Ministry opened the Safe Internet Slovakia Centre in Bratislava on Tuesday, TASR has learnt from the ministry's press department on the same day.
The project aims to protect children in digital space. The Safe Internet Slovakia Centre was supported by the European Commission through the Digital Europe Programme and is part of the European safe internet network with the Insafe international organisation as an umbrella body.
"I am glad that such a safe internet centre was established thanks to a successful project under the auspices of the Labour Ministry. Our target groups are, naturally, children, whom we want to protect from violence committed in the digital space. The centre's priorities include educational activities intended for the professional, but also for the lay public that will be held in coordination with other state administration bodies," said Labour Minister Erik Tomas (Hlas-SD).
The project is coordinated by the Labour Ministry through the National Coordination Centre for Addressing the Issue of Violence Against Children and the Project Office. Other partners of the project are the Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Centre and NGOs 'digiQ - Digital Intelligence' and 'Protect Me’.
As part of the project, the organisations will cooperate on increasing awareness of Internet security. Endangered children can seek help at the National Helpline for Children at Risk called 'More than ni(c)k'. The organisation 'Protect Me' focuses on removing material depicting sexual abuse of children.
