An investigator of the Interior Ministry's Inspectorate has accused a total of four individuals of misusing their powers, with three of them being former investigators of the National Crime Agency (NAKA) and one a former prosecutor of the Special Prosecutor's Office, TASR learnt on Tuesday.
Inspectorate spokeswoman Andrea Dobisasova told TASR that if found guilty, the accused individuals could be imprisoned for up to 12 years.
No further information could be provided due to the ongoing investigation. One of the accused investigators, a former head of NAKA, said on Facebook that he considers the accusation to be purpose-built. "I have never committed any crime, and I'll defend myself against this in a legal manner. At the same time, the accusation contains false allegations against me," he stressed.
The Zastavme Korupciu (Let's Stop Corruption) Foundation, in which the NAKA ex-head currently operates, has claimed on Facebook that the accusation is related to his work as head of the team dealing with Operation Purgatory, which dealt with corruption within the police.
