Regional authorities monitoring and dealing with an epidemic outbreak of jaundice in the east of Slovakia

Regional public health authorities (RÚVZ) continue to actively address and closely monitor the epidemic occurrence of viral hepatitis A (VHA) in some districts of eastern Slovakia. After reporting a suspected case of VHA, they carry out epidemiological investigations in the outbreak area and order anti-epidemic measures to prevent further spread of the disease and stabilise the situation, said the Chief Hygienist of the Slovak Republic, Tatiana Červeňová.

As the Prešov hospital pointed out in recent days, the infectious disease ward is full of patients suffering from jaundice. The worst situation was in Stará Ľubovňa, where two new cases were added on Wednesday 17 July and cumulatively there are a total of 174 cases of VHA reported in seven outbreaks since 15 May.
