New grounds for banning assemblies will be introduced in Slovakia. The highest constitutional officials will be entitled to an annuity for life and the right to real estate based on specified conditions. This follows from the lex assassination, or law on certain measures to improve the security situation in Slovakia, which came into force on Monday. Parliament debated the law in a fast-track procedure.
The law has been criticised by several opposition politicians with the main concern being that the new legislation would limit the freedom of speech as well as the freedom of assembly.
