The Government will take measures to enhance the credibility of the judiciary. It also wants to reduce delays in proceedings, which have a direct impact on the enforceability of the law. It has made this a long-term priority out of the strategic priorities, goals and objectives set out in the Programme Declaration of the Government for the years 2023-2027 approved on Wednesday, July 10.
In a comparative overview of countries in the EU published by the European Commission, Slovakia ranks last in perceptions of independence in its own judiciary.
The Culture Ministry also set out strategic goals. They include the development of local culture, independent and impartial public service media and an improvement of the services provided by museums, galleries and libraries.
However, the recently adopted Act on Slovak Television and Radio is widely criticised, including by international institutions. The new Slovak public service broadcaster STVR is a result of the transformation from the previously existing RTVS. The independence of the public service broadcaster is questioned in the wake of adopted changes.
