Today President Andrej Kiska attends the commemoration festivities in Leipzig, Germany, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the fall of communism at the invitation of his German counterpart Joachim Gauck.
Leipzig was chosen as the venue for German commemorations in order to underline the importance of 1989 protests in Saxony that acted as a catalyst for the subsequent fall of the regime led by Erich Honecker and the reunification of Germany. The joint meeting of presidents from Visegrad Four countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland Slovakia) and Germany is organized as part of the planned series of events that has already begun earlier this year in Warsaw and Budapest. In November, the circuit will continue in Bratislava and Prague.
