Apostolic Nuncio: Diversity enriches unity

Apostolic Nuncio: Diversity enriches unity

On Friday, a celebratory mass in the western Slovak town of Nitra opened three days of festivities that featured a nationwide pilgrimage of St. Cyril and Methodius, Mass was led by Archbishop Nicola Girasoli, the Roman Catholic Church's Apostolic Nuncio to Slovakia. He remarked that Slovakia needs to be a united nation, respecting differences, ideas, behaviours and cultural attitudes. In addition, he said that differences and plurality are never an obstacle to unity; on the contrary, diversity enriches unity.

"Cyril and Methodius came to our territory from far away and encountered a culture that was very different from theirs. They came here to preach, not to impose the Gospel," he pointed out the legacy of the saintly brothers. In Girasoli's words, we need to rediscover the values of participation and mutual understanding in our society.

His message was shared by the Archbishop Emeritus of Prague, Cardinal Dominik Duka, and the Bishop of Nitra, Viliam Judák, who was also present at the mass.
