State Secretary Eštok says G7 plays a key role

State secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Marek Eštok, said in a Tuesday meeting that the G7 plays a key role in current geopolitical crises. The meeting, which took place in Bratislava, was attended by the secretary and ambassadors from G7 countries posted in Slovakia. The main topics of the meeting related to the agenda of the G7 summit held in Italy last month. These were: the situation in Ukraine, the Middle East, economic security, hybrid threats and building partnerships with Africa.

"Italy took over the presidency of the G7 in a complex geopolitical context of ongoing conflicts, thus playing a key role in coordinating responses to current crises. This is also why we appreciate that the Leaders' Communiqué contains a series of clear commitments," said State Secretary Eštok in his speech. He also informed the ambassadors about specific steps taken by the Slovak government aimed at helping Ukraine in the framework of cross-border projects, in the field of energy security and humanitarian aid. Slovakia is actively involved in the G7+ group by supporting the energy sector of its eastern neighbor.

The partners also evaluated the main outputs of the June European Council. The G7 group (Group of Seven) unites seven states united by mutual values and principles - France, Japan, Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and Italy. On January 1, 2024, the presidency of the G7 was assumed for the seventh time by Italy, who, in mid-June, organized a summit of leaders of this group with the participation of representatives of the European Union, the European Council and the leaders of other invited states and international organizations.
