Third block of Mochovce nuclear power plant launching in 2016

The third block of the Mochovce nuclear power plant will be launched in the third quarter of 2016, and the fourth in 2017, energy utility Slovenské elektrárne (SE) general director Luca d'Agnese said at the construction site in Mochovce (Nitra region) on Tuesday. “The third block is complete up to around 80 percent”, said D'Agnese.

Further possible delays in the completion of the nuclear power plant will depend on the approval of Slovenské elektrárne’s new budget by company shareholders, noted the general director. “If the budget is approved, 2016 as the date of completion is a good estimate”, said D'Agnese, adding that both the majority owner Enel (owning 66 percent) and the state of Slovakia (owning 34 percent) must okay the budget. D'Agnese did not specify the amount of money needed to complete the blocks however and stressed that the completion of the nuclear power plant isn't related to the planned sale of Enel's shares.
