It's fairly likely that Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) will make a public appearance in the following days and resume carrying out his duties gradually, Vice-premier and Defence Minister Robert Kalinak (Smer-SD) declared on an RTVS discussion programme on Sunday.
"There will be permanent consequences due to the injury, as there was damage to the musculoskeletal system. But we are approaching the state as to when he is able to carry out his work with full commitment,” said Kalinak. As he confirmed, the Prime Minister already took an active part in discussions on the summit that was held earlier this week.
Opposition KDH leader Milan Majersky, also on the show, wished a speedy recovery to the Prime Minister and condemned the May 15 shooting. At the same time, he articulated his reservations regarding the approved Lex Assassination legislation. Majersky maintains that this package of measures should have been passed only after the conclusion of the investigation. “You don’t care about making peace. I don’t like mixing two things, but it is necessary to suggest that as if there was some retaliation for what had happened,” said the KDH leader while criticising new measures restricting the right to assembly.
However, politicians agreed on the need to curb hate speech on the internet. Robert Kaliňák wants to return to a measure that would allow police officers to confirm the identity of a person even in online.
Milan Majerský does not oppose the proposal, but he believes hate speech on the internet cannot be completely prevented by law.
Kalinak later intends also to pass a measure that enables police to identify individuals online. He wants to open a discussion on the issue with the opposition in September.
