Less holidaymakers in 2023

Fewer Slovaks made use of holiday time and long weekends to travel last year than in 2022. The number of holidaymakers dropped once again continuing a trend began with the COVID-19 pandemic, the Statistics Office reported.

A total of 2.7 million Slovaks went on holiday last year, which accounted for 59 percent of people over the age of 15. The number decreased by 3.5 percent year-on-year.

The number of individuals who spent their holiday in Slovakia fell by 18 percent to 1.2 million. This was still the most numerous group of holidaymakers, however.

The group of holidaymakers who combined travelling in Slovakia with at least one trip abroad grew by 5 percent year-on-year. The number of people who chose to travel abroad exclusively increased almost 30 percent over 2022.

Those who didn't go on holiday last year most often cited financial and health issues as their main reasons.
