At the Salzburg Forum on Wednesday, Interior Minister Šutaj Eštokpressed for support for countries in the Western Balkans, as they have become a target country for migrants. He also appealed for the harmonization of visa policies of these countries with EU policies. As well, Interior ministry representatives from nine EU states discussed supporting Western Balkan countries in the fight against smuggling. According to Šutaj Eštok, Slovakia considers international investigation teams to be the most useful tool in the investigation of smuggling.
Resettlement was also a key issue in the meeting. "We can also imagine changing the mandate of the Frontex agency so that it can also implement resettlement from these Balkan countries to other third countries," said Šutaj Eštok. According to the Minister of the Interior, improvement in the field of resettlement would also prevent the arrival of more migrants.
