Name of new acting head of STVR to be announced in due time

The name of new Slovak and Television Radio (STVR) statutory deputy will be known soon enough and in due time, House Vice-chair and Slovak National Party (SNS) leader Andrej Danko claimed on Tuesday.

Danko added that the name is soon to be announced by acting House Chair Peter Ziga (Hlas-SD) and voiced hope that the person will be someone with management experience.

According to Danko, Ziga already has several CVs on his table to choose from and is prepared for a scenario that President Peter Pellegrini will sign the STVR bill into law.

"He will certainly announce the name on Monday and I trust it will be a person with management experience, capable of handling the transition period, so that it won't be a person from a completely different profession," Danko claimed at a press conference. He criticised RTVS head Lubos Machaj for the way he has managed the public broadcaster.

Opposition's MP Zora Jaurova (PS) finds the STVR bill which was approved by Parliament to be problematic. She believes that knock-on effects of the "four-month interregnum" in STVR will impact the institution for the entire next year. She points out that the bill had been drafted in such a way that STVR will not have any general director for four months and, for at least three months, neither any board. "Installing a statutory deputy at the helm for an entire quarter of the year will certainly impact the running of the institution, not to mention the fact that there will be no supervisory authority, as there won't be any board."
