Minimum wage hikes anchored in gov't manifesto

Changes to the minimum wage have already passed through comments phase and they are enshrined in the Government Manifesto, for which the junior coalition Slovak National Party (SNS) voted as well, Labour Minister Erik Tomas (Hlas-SD) pointed out on Tuesday in response to statements made by SNS chair Andrej Danko.

Tomas appreciated the fact that Government-sponsored bills get passed in Parliament, which serves as an evidence that the coalition is functional. He hopes, therefore, that the minimum wage bill will garner support from the coalition as well.

"The new minimum wage is clearly anchored in the Government Manifesto, for which SNS voted as well. I would like to underline that the minimum pensions have been thawed and valorised again since the last year, based on a successful proposal tabled by Hlas-SD. The meeting of the Government Manifesto and respect for the coalition agreements is an elementary prerequisite for the functioning of every governing coalition," said Tomas.

Earlier on Tuesday, Danko declared that the governing coalition is stable and rejected notions of SNS blocking proposals to hike minimum wage. He accentuated that parliamentary deliberations run without problems and Government-sponsored bills get passed.
