Charges pressed against more than 35,000 people last year

A total of 57,675 people were suspected of committing a crime in Slovakia last year, which is an increase of 1.1 percent year-on-year according to a report on the activities of the Prosecutor-General's Office submitted to Parliament.

Having these cases investigated by the police, the prosecutor offices decided to press charges against 35,328 people. Recidivists represented 23.2 percent of the people being prosecuted. A slight increase in the number of crimes committed by foreign nationals was also reported. By country, most crimes were committed by Czechs (372 charged people), Hungarians (173) and Ukrainians (154).
