SHMU: Spring in Slovakia extremely warm

This year's spring in Slovakia was very warm, mainly due to extreme temperature conditions in the first half of the season, climatologist of the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU) Peter Kajaba reported on Friday.

Temperatures in March, the expert said, were abnormally to exceedingly abnormally warm, with the maximum temperature reaching 25.6 degrees Celsius. The highest temperature in April was just shy of 30 degrees, while the record in May stood at 28.9 degrees.

At the same time, the spring was marked by notable temperature swings, with temperatures dropping by more than 15 degrees from one day to another in some cases.

Meanwhile, precipitation in Slovakia increased from March to May. The dependence of precipitation on altitude became apparent in March. The most compact monthly precipitation was observed in April as there weren't many storms. These started to occur in May, with some of them causing local floods.
