Artificial intelligence (AI) is perceived by Slovaks as a good helper in terms of increasing efficiency and productivity, especially in the field of work, but many are afraid of it, with up to 26 percent of people fearing its abuse by humans, according to a survey conducted by the Public Research Institute (IVO).
The biggest disadvantages stated were the spreading of hoaxes, misinformation, deepfake videos, abuse of personal data and hacker attacks.
"Artificial intelligence raises fears and a sense of threat in people," said the project's creator and IVO analyst Marian Velsic. The second major drawback of AI, according to those polled, is the threat to the labour market. Almost a fifth of the respondents (17 percent) said that the deployment of AI will put many people out of work or will cause many professions and occupations to disappear.
One in ten respondents in the survey also mentioned the risk of a general threat from AI - the destruction of civilisation, i.e. with AI replacing and taking control of humans, or harming humans in some way. Another 6 percent consider the loss of freedom, privacy, manipulation, control or surveillance of humans to be its biggest drawback, IVO added in a statement.
