The UNICEF office in Slovakia opens a public exhibition in Bratislava to mark World Refugee Day. The photographs capture the stories of Ukrainian families who have been rebuilding their lives in Slovakia over the past two years after having to flee the war in Ukraine. World Refugee Day falls on 20th of June.
According to Spokesperson of the UNICEF Office in Slovakia Michal Biznar, the exhibition provides an authentic insight into the lives of the refugees, their challenges, but also their resilience, hope and determination. “We are extremely proud to be able to show through this exhibition how families from Ukraine have managed to find a new home in Slovakia and how much they contribute to Slovak society,” said Michaela Bauer, Chief Coordinator of the UNICEF Office in Slovakia.
According to Biznar, almost 2.3 million Ukrainians have crossed the Slovak border since the escalation of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict in February 2022. Shortly after that, UNICEF established an office in Slovakia. Its task is to support Ukrainian children and their families who have found a new home in Slovakia.
