The Judicial Council has selected Radoslav Prochazka, Ondrej Laciak and Marcela Dolnikova Zabkova as candidates for the post of judge of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).
Their candidacies must still be approved by the government, however. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe is set to elect a new ECtHR judge for Slovakia from a list of three candidates submitted by the government.
Laciak has been an ad hoc judge at the ECtHR since 2016, while he also holds the position of vice-chair of the Slovak Bar Association (SAK) for foreign relations. Prochazka previously operated as Slovakia's representative before EU courts. As for Dolnikova Zabkova, she currently works as a judge of Zilina District Court.
The mandate of the current Slovak judge at the ECtHR, Alena Polackova, will expire on December 28, 2024.
