Year-on-year (y-o-y) inflation measured by the EU's Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) amounted to 2.6 percent in May 2024, up by 0.2 percentage points (p.p.) from April 2024, the Statistics Office reported on Tuesday.
The average harmonised inflation rate for the 12-month period ending in May 2024 came to 6.3 percent, compared to the 14.1 percent posted in May 2023.
Monthly harmonised inflation amounted to 0.1 percent in May. The month-on-month growth was mainly influenced by an increase in the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages (by 0.27 p.p.).
The second and third most significant contributors to the monthly price growth in May were the segments of restaurants and hotels (up 0.05 p.p.), and clothing and footwear (up 0.04 p.p.).
Conversely, the most significant downward pressure was exerted by price decreases in the sector of transport (by 0.19 p.p.).
