Inflation in Slovakia rises above 2% year-on-year

Year-on-year inflation in Slovakia has increased. In May, the consumer prices increased by more than two percent and food prices have returned to growth. The last time inflation accelerated was in February 2023, when it was at a level of over 15 percent. Wood and Company analyst Eva Sadovská explains: "Compared to last year, we are paying 2.2 percent more for our consumer spending. The increase is not so significant, such a level of inflation can be considered healthy. It is far from the level of 2022, when inflation broke records. For example in 2022 it was 12.8 percent.” According to her, alcohol and tobacco became more expensive due to higher consumption taxes. People also pay more for restaurants or hotels.
