During Wednesday’s parliamentary session, coalition SNS deputies proposed reimplementing the “right to correction” and adding rules for operators of news portals. “The right to rectification allows natural and legal persons to request the rectification of false or incomplete factual statements that interfere with their honor, dignity or good reputation,” the party clarified. Under the proposal, it would be possible to request a correction within eight days of the original publication. This provision is meant to replace the current “right to expression.”
SNS also proposes the introduction of special obligations for operators of news portals enabling the discussion of articles. Operators should obtain and verify in advance identifying data of those participating in discussions. The proposed change is a response to recent online discussions that appeared to support the assassination attempt of the Prime minister.
