Recent rains in the Bratislava region have created ideal conditions for mosquitoes to breed. To combat the problem, the municipality has marshalled a fleet of drones carrying larvicide. “We use special agricultural drones to apply the substance.” stated Detonix drone operator Jan Feher. “Drones come into play in this flood situation when water is pouring into the area. That’s mainly when there is room for drones,” continued mosquito coordinator Michal Stano.
The capital city has been taking action against mosquitoes since February of this year when the first larvae began to appear. This year, the city of Bratislava has already completed five thousand monitoring of hatcheries and around three hundred interventions. They will continue this fight against mosquitoes until the end of their breeding season.
