As of Sunday, 9 June, the timetable for passenger train transport will be changed in Slovakia. Its provider, Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko (ZSSK) claims these changes are based on experience, optimising services, increasing the efficiency of train transport and are environmentally friendly due to the reduction of the carbon footprint. Company CEO, Peter Helexa, informed that the average delay of all trains in first quarter of 2024 was around 2 minutes, a 21% improvement on last year. The new timetable includes innovations such as cycle cars in Orava, quiet zones and ladies' compartments in express trains, as well as the extension of the routes of a couple of fast trains in the Horehronie region.
