Areas along Danube River Placed under Flood Alert

The Slovak Hydro-meteorological Institute (SHMU) has warned districts along the Danube River are threatened by floods. Due to persistent rain, meteorologists issued a second-grade flood warning which means the situation “can pose a threat to human activity and cause damage to property", SHMU states on its web site.

The most affected areas are Bratislava, Senec, Dunajská Streda, Komárno and the southern part of Nové Zámky. According to SHMU, the level of the Danube is stable and in line with the first grade of 'flood activity'. The situation is much more serious in the neighbouring Czech Republic where all the primary and secondary schools remained close today.
