Over 80 tons of illegal waste returned to Italy

Enviropolice returned more than 80 tons of illegal waste to Italy at the end of May. It was transported in four trucks and included textile and plastic waste, fiberglass and hazardous waste from medical devices and personal protective equipment. "This step followed the decision of the Environment Ministry and in cooperation with the European Anti-Fraud Office," said spokesman of the Presidium of the Police Force Roman Hájek. He explained that more than 600 tons of illegally imported waste was discovered in February of 2024, which was deposited in the district of Spišská Nová Ves. "The damage is estimated at more than 50,000 euros. The investigation is ongoing at the international level in cooperation with the Italian Carabinieri and the Eurojust agency," Hájek said. At the same time, the police call on citizens to report the suspicious movement of trucks or presence of waste in unusual places.
