President Čaputová and Peter Pellegrini stress role of churches in easing tensions in society

Churches and religious communities play a key role in easing tensions in society, President Zuzana Čaputová said following a meeting with representatives of churches and faith communities at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday.

The President remarked that after the assassination attempt on Prime Minister Robert Fico on May 15, everyone must ask themselves what happened and why it happened. "Not to rekindle the spiral of attacks on others, but only so that each of us understands his or her role in all of this and builds on it with new thoughts, words and deeds and deepens compassion within oneself," she explained.

Meanwhile, President-elect Peter Pellegrini, who also attended the meeting, stressed in this vein that representatives of churches know how to unite in crisis situations despite their differences. Pellegrini mentioned a number of tasks that should lead to society learning lessons. "These days should wake us up a little bit again and encourage us to go back to our values," he stressed.
