Maroš Šefčovič at the 3hour long EP hearing

On Tuesday evening at 6pm, the Slovak commissioner-designate Maroš Šefčovič appeared before the EP Committee on Transport and Tourism for a hearing. This was held to help MEPs assess the expertise and competence of Šefčovič as a candidate to become commissioner for transport and space in the new European Commission headed by Jean-Claude Juncker.

During the three hour long “grilling” session, Šefčovič focused mainly on the importance of transport and well-functioning infrastructure for European competitiveness, including the use of private-public partnerships within the funding of new transport projects. Though afterwards Šefčovič felt confident with his public hearing, the decisive outcome of the MEPs should be known tonight, after the meeting of coordinators.
