A large part of food in Slovakia is gradually becoming cheaper. By the end of March this year, 40% of food categories had become cheaper compared to last year, which is more than the EU average. Analysts of the National Bank of Slovakia do not expect the price reduction to stop. The reason for the decrease in prices is the drop in prices of agro-commodities and agricultural products on world markets. Another reason may be the decrease in the costs of farmers in the EU. Fertilizer prices also fell, and the growth of production prices moderated significantly. The growth of food prices in the EU peaked last March. Since then, the price development has started to moderate and the share of fast-growing items has decreased substantially.
