Express approval of laws by the government

Express approval of laws by the government

During the first half of the year, the government coalition enforced 23 laws in shortened proceedings. MPs will approve further legislation in the express mode in the following days. This way they are gradually reaching the numbers that Robert Fico's government achieved in one election period. In the past, the current opposition used the accelerated approval of laws the most. By default, the creation of a law takes about six months. Most politicians agree that the conditions of the abbridged legislative procedure do not need to be tightened, but they should be observed. Coalition MPs announcethat they will slow down the express pace of adopting laws.

According to the rules of procedure, the parliament can adopt laws in an shortened procedure if the country is threatened with economic damage, or if there may be a threat to the security of the state or basic human rights and freedoms.
