Several schools across Slovakia were evacuated on Tuesday due to an anonymous threat. Police are investigating reports of bombs reported at schools in seven counties. In Nitra, for example, the evacuation affected all 14 city schools.
Slavomíra Palková, headmistress of the school on Fatranská Street, explained that they evacuated the school after having received an email and contacted the municipality as well as the police.
Only a few days ago, security forces were on alert in the capital due to the same anonymous threats. The case has been taken up by the National Crime Agency. Education Minister Tomáš Drucker condemns such actions, saying that it is nothing heroic on the contrary: “I think it has crossed the red line. I would like to ask everybody who is doing this to stop.”
This time it's not just about schools. Banks have also received threats. Security expert Martin Královič says in today's digital age, we can expect to see more reports like this.
Given the wording of the emails, he thinks the threat is minimal. But nothing should be underestimated and the focus should be on preparing the recipients of such messages. Immediate evacuation is not always the right response.
