At Thusday's international conference on Slovakia's twenty year membership in the EU, Prime Minister Robert Fico spoke about the challenges facing the EU. These include: EU expansion, illegal immigration, and the economy. However, he also emphasized the importance of Slovakia's membership in the union, while also warning about potential conflicts over sovereignty.
In his speech, Fico supported Ukraine's bid for membership in the EU. He also criticized the position of the Union in matters of foreign policy. He pointed out, for example, the different attitudes towards the war in Ukraine and Israel. "Peace should be at the top of the European agenda, because the EU was created as a peace project," he pointed out.
