The development of nuclear energy can bring about a reduction of electricity prices and increase competitiveness. This is a conclusion that Prime Ministers of Slovakia and the Czech Republic, Robert Fico and Petr Nečas, agreed upon at the European Nuclear Forum in Prague. “Without the development of nuclear power it is impossible to remain competitive and maintain energy security.
We plan to continue to develop nuclear energy,” Nečas said on Thursday. According to Prime Minister Fico, Europe is losing competitiveness because of rising electricity prices. “Nuclear energy would contribute to a reduction of electricity prices. Production of electricity from nuclear facilities must be represented in the energy mix,” said Fico. At the nuclear forum held in Prague, Slovak Prime Minister Fico also said that plans for construction of a new nuclear power plant in Jaslovske Bohunice are still realistic.
