Cabinet Agrees to Higher Sanctions for Illegal Employment

Starting from November of this year, fines for illegal employment in Slovakia should be higher, as stipulates the draft amendment to the law on labour inspection. The Cabinet passed the draft revision at its session on Thursday. The minimum fine for concurrent illegal employment of two or more people should be at least €5,000.

Currently, an employer can be fined €2,000-200,000 regardless to the number of illegally employed. As the labour department informed, over 2011 and 2012, 245 fines were imposed on employers for illegal labourers at a total sum of €510,000. The average fine stood at €2,082.
