Slovak students won a total of four medals at the European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO), which took place on April 11-17 in Georgia.
Of the 37 participating European countries, the Slovak girls placed fifth overall, with each girl of the four-member team winning one medal. Eliška Macáková managed to win gold, while Lucia Chladná won silver, and Hana Kalábová and Alica Dományová both took bronze.
EGMO was first held in 2012 at Murray Edwards College in Cambridge. The idea was conceived back in 2009 when Vicky Neale joined the college as head of mathematical studies and the college was looking for a way to support her activities focusing on young talented women pursuing mathematics.
