Slovak President Andrej Kiska signed a new act into law aimed at compensating war orphans and those who participated in the anti-Nazi resistance fighting during the Second World War.
The act was approved by Parliament on September 12 and signed into law by President Kiska on September 22. The authors of the act, Smer-SD party deputies Viliam Jasaň and Ľubomír Petrák claim the aim of the Act is to compensate war orphans and those whose parents died from fighting against or being executed by Nazi forces occupying Slovakia during the Second World War. Approximately 400 such orphans qualify for the allowance €2,655.52. If they had lost both parents to fighting or execution however, they would be be eligible for €3,983.27.
