Joining NATO was one of the most fundamental decisions in the history of Slovakia, Foreign Affairs Minister Juraj Blanar declared in his speech in Brussels during a ceremony marking the 75th anniversary of the founding of NATO on Thursday.
"Becoming a member of NATO, one of the strongest and most successful alliances ever, was one of the most momentous decisions in the modern history of Slovakia," claimed Blanar.
The minister added that the decision was important for Slovakia's security particularly in the context of the war raging near its own border and the threat of terrorism. He stated that Slovakia as a trustworthy NATO member will remain committed to shared values and duties stemming from its Alliance membership.
