An absolute ban on the use of mobile phones will apply to first to third-graders at primary school during lessons, breaks and on school premises. Announcing this on Thursday, Education Minister Tomas Drucker, however, did not specify the date on which the measure is due to take effect. Fourth and fifth-graders will have an exemption if the use of a mobile phone is required by the state educational programme. Pupils from the sixth grade upwards will be exempted from the ban if this is required by the state educational programme or if the exemption is decided by a teacher for the sake of their education.
